Welcome to the TNT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation
Currently there is not a universal standard for belt ranking in BJJ. This lack of regulation has created a huge disparity in knowledge and ability throughout the BJJ community. Over the past decade the self-defense or "Martial" aspect of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has all but been lost as instructors have marketed to the larger demographics by teaching BJJ purely as a sport with little or no self-defense application. Our Federation is highly focused upon our members being highly proficient in self-defense the way Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was originally designed for and the reason for its sudden rise in popularity.
The TNT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Founder is Professor Scott "TNT" Tannenbaum, a 4th Degree Black belt under the legendary Rigan Machado. Professor Tannenbaum's purpose is to provide regulated guidelines to members to give them a structured, well-balanced foundation right from the beginning of their training. This includes a focus on BJJ without the Gi (Kimono) to emphasize the self-defense aspects as the Kimono training only will provide grips, submissions and positions that would not be available, available, ineffective and even often detrimental in most self-defense situations. Knowledge and full proficiency and understanding of Gi application is mandatory to ensure practitioner has full understanding of all aspects of BJJ including sport.
Colored belts for adults and minors shall be based on a set curriculum of a minimum mandatory list of required techniques. This curriculum will ensure each student has a well rounded and has a comprehensive understanding before being promoted. The minimum curriculum requirements as well as the Professor’s acknowledgement that the student is performing their live wrestling and application of their belt level suitable for promotion will both be required for promotions.
Our Black belts must be highly proficient in the following areas:
- Striking / Striking defense and evasion
- Standing self-defense
- Takedowns / throws (No Gi)
- Takedowns / throws (Gi)
- Punch evasion from standing and ground positions
- Position maintenance and control
- Submissions from all positions
- Submission defense from all positions
Our overall intent by creating this Federation is to set ranking curriculum, implement a large scale written regulatory standard, and give our members a blueprint on how to improve their skills to achieve both their individual goals and qualify for higher level competition. The associated members within the TNT BJJ Federation meet the criteria that we believe will give our students the tools for well-rounded structure in their style, rather than just focusing on one specific area. We are honored to be a part of this amazing new Association of BJJ Academies.

Adam Nance is the owner and head instructor of C.H.S. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You can read more about him on his web page (Click Here) however we’d like to discuss Adam further in relation to his philosophy in connection with the recently formed TNT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
Adam has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over 12 years and has taught for the past seven, and recently affiliated under the TNT BJJ Federation. He teaches BJJ for several reasons. For kids he feels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu helps prepare kids on how life really works, and that BJJ helps them to learn to stand up for themselves and not feel bad about who they are. Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu builds inner confidence and helps teach kids that no one has the right to make them feel like they are below anyone else. Working with adults helps people maintain fitness and to develop situational awareness with self-defense to properly assess threats.
One of the main reasons Adam has affiliated with the TNT BJJ Federation is to help form the structure to earn valid and measurable certifications. Working to develop these guidelines will ensure that the fighters associated with C.H.S. BJJ competitions are developing their skills in an industry recognized valid form. This means that each colored belts will be honestly earned.
Adam is committed to follow the standards and guidelines set by the TNT Federation.
