Classes

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It promotes the principle that smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat them. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been proven time and time again to be the single most effective martial art/ self-defense system in the world for both men and women.
Classes are taught emphasizing proper technique, realistic self-defense, conditioning and fun. Our classes include: warm up, plyometrics, basic striking, throws, takedowns, takedown defense, strike defense, standing escapes/ counters, drills, technical instruction, and live submission wrestling. Students are encouraged to constantly rotate partners throughout class during drills and live wrestling to acclimate them to opponents of different sizes, strength, body types and skill levels.
Beginner BJJ class focuses on the fundamental positions and techniques to develop a strong foundation and prepare students for their Blue belt. Once a student demonstrates proficiency of the basic skill set they will be allowed to attend the Advanced BJJ class with the instructors permission. Advanced BJJ is a more conditioning intensive class with instruction on more advanced techniques and drills.

Cardio Kick Boot Camp
Looking for more than the "fluffy" aerobic style kickboxing taught at the health club? This is the place for you. You are going to sweat a lot and have the workout of your life. With Cardio Kickboxing you will burn more calories than in most other routines that do not deliver half of the intensity. Cardio Kickboxing is a fun, fast tempo class emphasizing proper form, movement, & offensive power techniques providing strength, flexibility, cardio-vascular conditioning, and the ultimate in stress relief. This is a full body workout using the bags, core training, plyometrics, aerobic steps, medicine balls, rope jumping, etc...
Whether you an out of shape beginner or a professional athlete you will be pushed to your own limit by Melissa. You will be taught proper technique on all exercises to make sure you get maximum benefits and avoid any injuries. You will never have more fun getting in shape and releasing some stress!

Kid Jitsu (6-12yrs)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu differs from Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu and other Martial Arts because of its emphasis on grappling. Our program teaches children basic striking techniques, but we also ensure that each child learns what to do on the ground by covering takedowns, reversals, sweeps, escapes, submissions and standing self-defense. Since these techniques rely on leverage and not size or strength (unlike Martial Arts that focus on punching and kicking) a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner is able to defeat much larger and stronger opponents. This, coupled with the fact that most fights, including confrontations with bullies, end up on the ground, makes Jiu-Jitsu the most effective Martial Art for children.
In todays world kids are commonly subjected to bullying. Our Kid Jitsu program not only teaches realistic self-
defense but also self-confidence, self control, cameraderie, competitive spirit and a great way to get them active and promote a healthy lifestyle.

MMA
Our Mixed Martial Arts(MMA) teaches students how to utilize the most effective core Martial Arts(Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling)and focuses on all aspects of competitive Cage fighting. All positioning, striking, submissions as well as conditioning and mental preparation are covered in this class. The goal is to have each student be well rounded in all aspects of the sport and be able to combine each of the Martial Arts together seamlessly.
Regardless of whether you want to have the best overall body conditioning workout, having fun or have aspirations to be a professional MMA fighter this class is suited for you. All levels are welcome.

Muay Thai
Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
Class consists of a warm up, conditioning drills, pad work, bag drills, partner drills, clinch work, technical instruction, light sparring and core training. Muay Thai is well known as being one of the most effective striking arts in the world and also incredible for overall body conditioning, weight loss and a fun and satisfying way to relieve stress and get your aggression out. For both men and women Muay Thai class is taught in a friendly safe manner where each person is pushed to their own personal fitness and comfort level whether they are training for completion or there to shed a few pounds and get in shape.

Street Defense
This class covers all aspects of defending yourself on the street. Simple and real life applicable techniques as well as strategy and mental preparation for dangerous situations men and women may face using a variety of techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Aikido, Krav Maga as well
as others. There is no "sport" Martial Arts taught in this class but instead a no nonsense approach to avoid, neutralize, escape and stay safe in a variety of real life threatening scenarios.
